10 months

My baby is turning into a little boy.  He crawls, pulls up, walks across the room with his walker, and gets into EVERYTHING.  If there is a plug in an outlet, a lamp cord, a dog bowl, or an open cabinet he is getting into it.  It’s so great to watch and see him change, but it is so foreign to see him standing up and walking with his walker.  He’s becoming independent and so curious about everything.

Size:
Your weight has slowed down and you have stayed within the 20-21 pound range for the last month.  Since you got off your prednisone you are starting to lose a little bit of the water weight around your nick area, but you still have those chunky cheeks.  Your legs are still chunky but are starting to thin out a bit since you have starting crawling, standing, and walking more.  You are still wearing a size 3 diaper and are in 9 and 12 month clothes.

Sleep:
Your sleep patterns are getting better not that you are off your prednisone.  We had the time change this month and we kept you somewhat on your old schedule so now you are going to bed a bit later and sleeping a bit later.  We normally start bedtime routine around 7:30 and you go to sleep around 8.  You might wake up once during the night and we normally wait a few minutes to see if you can work it out yourself.  If you cannot then we pat your back for a few minutes and you go back to sleep.  You normally wake up anytime between 7 and 8.

Activities:
You have lots of activities now a days, but you love walking with your walker.  We often have you barricaded in the couch area and when you get to the end and run into something you cry because you can’t keep going.  We’re teaching you to turn yourself around.  You love to play with the activity set on the front of your walker and put all the shapes through the holes.  You’ll crawl all over the house and get excited when you are able to crawl into an area you’ve never been (normally because we have doors shut).  You’re favorite toy is still your construction set with the hammer.  If we have it on top of the stereo speaker you reach and strain until we get it down for you and you immediately take the .  You love a lot of small parts like your little people, small shape blocks, and your puzzle pieces.  You bang them together over and over like you’re clapping with them.

Food:
You are eating four bottles a day.  A 4 oz bottle when you wake up and a 7 oz bottle at 10am, 3am, and bedtime.  You eat solids 3 times a day and we are trying more stage 3 and finger foods with you.  Your appetite has changed since you’ve gotten of the Prednisone and we are still tweaking it to make sure you eat enough solids and are still getting enough milk.  You are also drinking water form a sippy cup and you really like it.

Nighttime Routine:
Nighttime routine is same as previous since dad has been around at night.  About 7:30 he bathes you while I get your bottle and medicine ready.  He puts you in your pj;s and I give you your bottle and put you to bed.  If you have trouble falling asleep I normally have to rub/pat your back for a bit and you relax or rock you for a few minutes.

New Things:
Everything is new!  This month you pulled up for the first time, crawled for the first time, and started walking with the help of a walker or someone holding your hands.  Big month of new things!
You had your first stomach bug and threw up for the first time (mom had it, too!).  It was definitely different than just a spit up like when you were smaller.

You still love bath time and take baths in the big bath time.  You love to throw your toys over the edge of the tub and then look for them.  You also roll around and try to stand up in the tub.

You have started to have a bit of separation anxiety.  You are fine when I drop you off at daycare because it is a familiar setting.  But if we are in public or in an overwhelming situation, then you want to be held or be near dad and I.  If we try to set you on the ground, then you immediately fuss.  You have also started fussing a lot more in your carseat and I think part of the reason is you want to see us and know we are there.

Sad Jack

You love to wave hello to people when you see them.  You don’t always wave at the correct time, but it is so cute to see you do it and how happy you get.

You have started to clap and will always clap your hands together when you have objects in them.  You love that they make noise and if you start to get bored I just give you two blocks, show you they make noise, and you take them and do the same.

This month we started putting you in your walker in the kitchen we I’m cooking dinner or working in the kitchen.  You haven’t mastered standing up and moving forward but you push yourself backwards (kinda like how you started crawling backwards first, too!).  You also go backwards and do circles.

You still love to blow bubbles and have also started making puckering sounds with your mouth.  It almost sounds like you’re blowing kisses!

You have not used your pacifier nearly as much this month and I think the end may be near.  This makes me both happy (I won’t have to deal with taking it away from you down the road) and sad (it used to comfort you when you’d get upset).

We have started working with you on using a sippy cup and you love to drink water out of it, especially when you are eating solids.
